The Department has three sound studios equipped with a number of analogue and digital equipment alongwith audio workstation, 3 D surround maxing set up (Auro certified 11.1), Digital Location Audio Recorder . The course offered is an amalgamation of technology and aesthetics. During the specialisation the students go through the complexities of recording systems and get hands-on experience in studio & location recording both in film & video format. After passing out from the institution, they get opportunity to work as recordist in music, dubbing, re-recording studios, film and video production houses, media channels, All India Radio, FM Channel & Doordarshan Kendras, ISRO and Film Division.

Students of Sound Recording & Sound Design will learn the art and craft of sound recording for media, Dubbing, Background Music recording, song recording for both film and non-film. The learning process is to grasp the art as well as the relevant techniques and the technology.

The course will enable a student for entering into the field of sound recording through a structured program. Learning modes are through class-rooms, recording exercise, studying the work of film makers, workshops, lectures by invited guest faculty, study tours and finally working as member of film making team.
