Overview

Government of Odisha have established an autonomous Institute in the name and style of BijuPattnaik Film & Television Institute of Odisha (BPFTIO) under World Bank assisted scheme to meet the emerging demand of well trained technical manpower in the field of television network and film production activities. Situated on the bank of the river Mahanadi, BPFTIO occupies an independent space in the sprawling campus of BhubananandaOdisha School of Engineering (BOSE), Cuttack, the oldest Engineering School of the State. Funded by Government of Odisha, Department of Skill Development and Technical Education, the institute offers diploma courses in 4 years degree courses as Cinematography, Sound Recording & Sound Design,Film Editing.

BPFTIO has some of the most advanced and sophisticated equipment in the Eastern Region and all the three disciplines are managed by experienced faculties. Almost all pass out students of this institute have found employment in Government and Private sector, Media channels, Television & Film industry.

The institute offers three years of Diploma programme in the major technical areas of film-making. The 1st& 2nd Semester courses of study have been kept common as foundation for all the three disciplines with a view to providing basic knowledge and skill of film making. 3rd, 4th, 5th& 6th Semester courses are specific to individual Diploma course as well as some important subjects like Direction, Film & TV production are also taught with the aim of not only to enable the students to specialize in their respective disciplines but also to make them independent film makers. Over and above they are facilitated to direct a film of 10-12 minutes duration in final semester.

During training, the students are provided with adequate theoretical and practical inputs for developing appropriate competency, so that, after completion of the specific programme they become acceptable in the job market of Film & Television industry in their respective fields.
